The first (and some would say most important) step in successfully tormenting Leya is to correctly identify Leya. In order to do this, it is best to be in the same location that she is. Leya is in the San Francisco area most of the year, but she calls southern California home, so you may run into here there as well. Although she has been known to be in other states, she does not frequently spend time outside of California, so if you're looking for her in Phoenix, AZ, San Antonio, TX, Bismarck, ND or Knoxville, TN you are not likely to be successful.

Once you find yourself in a location where you believe Leya may be, you should verify that this is the case. There two common methods of doing this. The first is to look around and visually verify her presence. This is by far the most common method, used by people young and old, however it requires enough knowledge of Leya's physical appearance to pick her out of a line up (so to speak). If you are unable to visually identify Leya, all hope is not lost, as you can use the second method, which is less preferred, but can also be effective. In this case, you simply stand in one area, looking around (as if trying to find someone) and say (in a somewhat loud and clear voice) "Leya!" as if trying to get someone's attention. If Leya is present in your location, she will undoubtedly respond. This method, however, has the downside of you looking like a fool if Leya is not nearby.

It's important that you pronounce Leya's name correctly, especially if using method 2 to identify her. Her name is not pronounced Lay-uh (like from Star Wars), nor is it pronounced Gertrude, Victoria or antidisestablishmentarianism. There are, to be perfectly honest, a great many ways that her name is not pronounced, but Lee-uh is the only correct pronunciation.
